The Thief

I had been feeling a sense of conviction recently about how I was spending my time: too much mindless web-browsing, social media, that sort of thing. I’ve had a sense that more time devoted to prayer, reading, and writing would be extraordinarily fruitful and helpful to both myself and others. I’ve had some moments of feeling discontent with myself, for hoarding too much of my time.

And then this past Saturday night, I had a fascinating dream. In my dream, I had just got out of bed and went into my living room and sat on the couch. But I didn’t sit on the long couch and face the TV like I normally do. (It’s a Roku TV, and I usually use it first thing in the morning to listen to podcasts while I fix coffee, drink coffee, and web browse.) But this time, I sat on the smaller couch and faced my bookshelf in the opposite direction. And as soon as I did, I was startled to see an intruder crouched down by the wall where my bookshelf is!

He had a tool in his hand, and where my bookshelf normally is, it was my TV that was actually there. When he saw me, he dropped the tool and ran, and I chased him out. When I was coming back up my stairs, I noticed he had left a notebook behind as well. I remember picking up the notebook and looking in it, thinking maybe it would provide clues about what he was doing, but that is where the dream ended.
